Sweet Chili Sauce

“I went looking for the recipe to serve with my Burmese Yellow Tofu. This would also be good for Won Tons or Spring Rolls as a spicy alternative to the standard Sweet & Sour Sauce.” – April Ferre

Sweet Chili Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/3 Cup Rice Vinegar
  • 1/3 Cup Water
  • 1/3 Cup Plus 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Sambal Oelek Or to Taste
  • – Or 1 to 2 Teaspoons Dried Red Chili Flakes
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Garlic Grated
  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger Grated
  • 1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce
  • 2 Teaspoons Cornstarch Dissolved in 1 Tablespoon Water
  • 1 to 2 Drops Red Food Coloring Optional

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients except cornstarch slurry in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring regularly.
  • Slowly whisk in cornstarch mixture and continue to cook for approximately 1 minute or until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and cool sauce completely.
  • Store in an air tight jar in the refrigerator. Makes approximately 1 cup.
