Orange-Cranberry Macadamia Rolls

“These came about when trying to find a new way to use my Basic Bread Recipe. It utilizes the orange filling from the Swedish Tea Ring, and substitutes cranberries for the cherries.” – April Ferre

Orange-Cranberry-Macadamia Rolls

Course: Rolls, Yeast Breads

Ingredients

Orange Filling:

  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Orange Zest
  • 2 Tablespoons Orange Juice
  • 1 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar

For the Rolls:

  • Basic White Bread or Roll Recipe
  • Additional Butter Melted
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Macadamia Nuts Chopped & Toasted
  • Powdered Sugar Glaze
  • Sliced Almonds Toasted, Optional

Instructions

To make Orange Filling:

  • Cream 3 tablespoons butter. Add orange zest and juice.
  • Blend in powdered sugar until smooth.

Assemble the Rolls:

  • Prepare bread dough through its first rise. Punch down dough. Shape 2-ounce balls of dough into 4-inch squares.
  • Do not try to form typical "cinnamon" rolls, as orange filling will melt and not stay with dough.
  • Brush outside edges of dough with melted butter. Spread orange filling in middle of dough.
  • Sprinkle with dried cranberries and chopped macadamia nuts.
  • Fold corners of dough toward middle and seal. Let rise on cookie sheet until doubled.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and baste with more melted butter. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
  • When cool, drizzle with powdered sugar glaze and sprinkle with more toasted macadamia nuts or sliced almonds.
