“I’ve been hoping to locate a copy-cat recipe for ‘Erik’s Secret Goo,’ the signature condiment on sandwiches from Erik’s Deli, so I can replicate my favorite sandwich, the ‘Pilgrim’s Progress.’ The closest lead I’ve gotten is that the secret ingredient might be liquid smoke. I added enough mustard to turn the mayo the appropriate color and added a bit of liquid smoke. The resulting concoction is fantastic and might be pretty close. Now the problem is that I haven’t had a chance to get a sandwich from Erik’s in ages, so it’s hard to remember for sure exactly until I can get my hands on one again. But even if this turns out not to be a close relative of Erik’s Secret Goo, it’s going to be in my regular sandwich rotation.” – April Ferre
