Grandma Calla’s Fruit Cake
Ingredients
- 2 Pounds Chopped Seedless Raisins
- 1 Pound Cleaned Currants
- 1 Cup Chopped Citron
- 4 Cups Flour
- 1 Heaping Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
- 1 Level Teaspoon Cloves
- 1 Tablespoon Nutmeg
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup Sorghum Syrup
- 1 Cup Shortening
- 1 Cup Strong Cold Coffee
Instructions
- Mix together fruit with 1/2 cup flour. In separate bowl, combine remaining flour, baking soda, and spices.
- Blend together, sugar, sorghum syrup, shortening and coffee. Add dry ingredients until just moistened. Bake slowly (300 to 325 degrees) for an hour or longer. Makes 2 cakes.
