April’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

“These were the first cookies I entered in the Santa Cruz County Fair and I won first place on them. I modified Nestle’s recipe slightly, basically I just doubled the vanilla, but it seems to make a difference.” – April Ferre

April’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

Course: Cookies


  • 2 1/4 Cups Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 12 Ounces Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Cup Walnuts Chopped


  • Heat oven to 375 degrees. In bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt.
  • In larger mixer bowl, beat butter granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating well. Stir in chips and nuts.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoonful's onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove to wire rack. Cool Completely. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
