“We made these during after-school care at Mid County (now Twin Lakes) Christian School. This would have been around the 3rd or 4th grade, and we had a great time shaping the dough into different animal shapes … and then biting their heads off after they were baked!” – April Ferre

Soft Pretzel Animals

Course: Yeast Breads


  • 1 Package Active Dry Yeast
  • 4 Cups Flour
  • 1 1/2 Cup Water Warm
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Salt


  • In large bowl, mix together yeast, water, sugar, and salt. Stir in flour. Knead on table until dough is smooth.
  • Shape dough into animal shapes. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with salt. Bake in 425 degree oven for 15 minutes or until browned.
